29th ANNUAL AHWATUKEE EASTER PARADE & SPRING CARNIVAL COMING March 26th

Planning is underway for the 29th Annual Ahwatukee Easter Parade & Spring Carnival scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2005. Entries are needed, so now is the time for businesses, youth and church groups, families, and individuals to put their heads together and start organizing their entries for the Easter Parade, Ahwatukee-Foothills’ largest community-participation event.

Sponsored again by the Kiwanis Club of Ahwatukee, Andi Pettyjohn, President, this year’s “Parade Boss” (for the 13th time) is Mike Schmitt. Helping out are Kiwanis Club members, Bill Clark, Jim Bell and Don Schneider.

After the parade, a family Spring Carnival is planned at Mountain Vista Park at 48th Street and Knox Road. Together with the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, food, fun and games for the whole family are scheduled from noon until 3:00 p.m.

Parade entry forms have been mailed to about 250 local businesses, groups and previous parade entries.

Arriving at work one morning, Helen (Gwyneth Paltrow) discovers that she had been unjustifiably sacked from her PR job. She is returning home when an amazing thing happens, time reverses itself for a few seconds and a second version of herself is created. In one reality Helen catches the tube train, meets James (John Hannah) and arrives home to find her loathsome lothario lover Gerry (John Lynch) cheating on her with his ex-girlfriend Lydia (Jeanne Tripplehorn). In the other reality Helen misses the tube train, gets mugged, goes to hospital and eventually arrives home to find Gerry alone in the shower. The two realities move forward in tandem; in one Helen leaves Gerry and forms a happy, new, loving relationship with James; in the other Helen's live becomes more and more wretched as she takes on two jobs to support her worthless, cheating boyfriend as he supposedly writes his novel but in fact carries on a torrid affair with Lydia.

Ahwatukee Kiwanians are recognizing, along with Kiwanians around the world, Feb. and March as a time to encourage reading among young children.

A children’s book drive (new or slightly used books appropriate for pre-school to 6th grade) is planned from Feb. 14 to March 15. Do some early house cleaning and help us make books available to children in need. Books may be donated at the following sites:
