The Onion Filled Pinata

The Onion Filled Piñata- by Dr. Jason Kolber- Living Inline

Recently I heard a wonderful story from one of our favorite clients and I Thought it would be fun to share it with you during the holidays.

The players in the story are-
The father whom we will call Bill
The mother whom we will call Tracy
The daughter whom we will call Allison

The Story-

Allison was getting ready for her eleventh birthday and was so excited to have so many of her closestfriends coming over to celebrate her special day.

Now Bill has a wonderful sense of humor, and often like to share life principles through examples and acts of humor and joy.

Tracy and Bill spent a good amount of time preparing for their daughter’s party and their home was as spotless as it could possibly be.

Bill seemed to disappear for a half-hour or so before the party and used the excuse that he was just going to freshen up and change outfits.

Later in the day as all the children arrived and were joyously playing games and singing songs, Bill appeared on the scene with the most colorful and creative Piñata imaginable.

All of the kids licked their lips and rolled up their sleeves as they prepared to take a turn at the well stuffed piñata filled to the rim with delicious sweets and candy gems.

After many valiant attempts to burst the piñata, Allison was successful with a strong strike with her very own Louisville Slugger baseball bat!

To Allison’s and the rest of the children’s dismay, what came pouring out of the piñata was definitely a most Memorable sight.

Jolly ranchers and tootsie rolls were not the prize of choice, but rather, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, spinach and celery!

Bill had played a practical joke and Allison quickly realized that her dad was the culprit!

Of course, Bill brought out another piñata filled with the regular sweet and tasty treats, but there was a method to Bill’s madness in regards to life lessons.

Sometimes, we aim for a prize and end up with something very different than we expect.

Sometimes if we push harder or swing harder towards our goal, it does not always get us the desired outcome.

Sometimes when we crave unhealthy foods, relationships, or options, life offers us healthy ones instead.

Most importantly, sometimes the usage of humor drives home a point better than heavy handed-ness.

So this week, we gently remind you to choose consciously what you fill your piñata with.

In other words, define clearly what will and what won’t be your prize.

If you do celebrate the holidays, can you choose a piece of broccoli or two and avoid all the Sugar in the piñata?

Can you like Allison surround yourself with those whom you most cherish at your party?

If you do have challenging people to spend time with, can you make sure that you are protected from the swing of their baseball bat of negativity, criticism, or pain?

Like Tracy and Bill, can you find a way to serve by helping to clean, cook, or offer assistance in some way?

Most importantly, can you laugh and share in the gratitude of all of the bounty that you may have and can you relish this time with slowness and ease within your pace?

For those that feel slightly isolated during this time, please know that you are special and your value on this planet is not based upon how many gifts you receive, but rather by whether or not people receive the gift of getting to know and celebrate whom you really are.

Sending our many good thoughts of joy, love and gratitude to you and may your piñata be as sweet as you choose and may you always know how much you mean and are cherished by us and those around you.

Our Warmest to you

Jason, Elissa and Chanda
